Dissolved ozone is used industrially in many applications, including
drinking water treatment, soil and ground water remediation and
sterilization of medical instruments. Dissolved ozone is highly oxidizing, which makes it efficient at killing pathogens and removing
water contaminants. Current methods for measuring dissolved ozone
are designed for ultra-pure water, require the user to manually collect
samples and mix reagents and/or are susceptible to interferences in
“dirty” water. 2B Technologies Inc.’s Model UV-106-W Aqueous
Ozone Monitors avoid these limitations by using patent-pending
MicroSparge technology in conjunction with UV absorption. Due to
the lack of membranes, cuvettes or other consumables, the product

hr averaging times. Internal logging enables data recording of up to

Enhancing Column Lifetimes
Since their introduction in 2007, superficially porous particles
(SSPs)—a new type of particle for HPLC that yields better chromatographic performance than totally porous particle-based HPLC
columns—were silica-based and couldn’t be used in high-pH mobile
phases due to silica dissolution. However, chromatographers desired
the flexibility of using mobile phases in a wide pH range on a single column to adjust selectivity. Meeting chromatographers needs,
Agilent Technologies’ Poroshell HPH-C18 and HPH-C8—the
first high-pH-stable SPPs—give chromatographers the ability to run
analyses in a wider pH range, including high pH conditions, and still

Rheological Measurements Under Controlled
Anton Paar GmbH’s Humidity Option CTD 180 is a special acces-
sory for Anton Paar’s MCR rheometer series that enables users to
control the humidity and temperature around the sample, simultane-
ously, when performing rheological or DMA measurements, prevent-
ing sample drying. The humidity option for the CTD 180 consists of
a specially tailored humidity generator for setting the relative humid-
ity in the temperature device up to 95%, depending on the actual
temperature. The humidity sensor, which can be immersed into the
temperature device at one of the front windows, gives feedback to the
humidity controller and transfers the data to the rheometer software.
A water tank is part of the humidity generator to feed the dry gas up
to the required water content. The design of the convection oven is
optimized for the work with high humidity and prevents cold spots,
which could turn the wet air back into water.
