Manufacturing Demonstration Facility
ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility is
helping industry adopt new technologies to reduce
life-cycle energy use and greenhouse gas emissions,
lower production costs and create new products.
The MDF, a Department of Energy first, will help
manufacturers reduce risk and validate investments
in innovations that will create new products and
Spallation Neutron Source
The Spallation Neutron Source is a one-of-a-kind
research facility that provides the most intense
pulsed neutron beams in the world for scientific
research and industrial development. State-of-the-art experiment stations provide a variety of
capabilities for researchers across a broad range
of disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, materials
science and biology.
The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility
offers some of the world’s most powerful
supercomputers. From astrophysics to combustion
to fusion and dozens more areas across the
scientific spectrum, the center’s simulations make
transformational breakthroughs possible at lower
cost and in less time.
Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory have
designed and tested an all-solid lithium-sulfur
battery with approximately four times the energy
density of conventional lithium-ion technologies
that power today’s electronics. The ORNL battery
design, which uses abundant low-cost elemental
sulfur, also addresses flammability concerns
experienced by other chemistries.
