R&D 100 Award Winners
Explore New Paths
R&D Magazine has a proud and lengthy history, and it has changed with the times to reflect the way professionals in the industries it covers want to receive their informa- tion. We boast a twice daily e-Newsletter that encompasses a wide range of topics.
We produce reports on trends in laboratories and focus on the economic impact of R&D
globally and how it may affect you and your company. And we strive to hit the sweet spot
for our audience with authoritative news reporting, in-depth features, contributions by
experts in the field and R&D 100 Awards content that we know you would like to see.
Each year, a special R&D Magazine issue is devoted to the R&D 100 Awards Winners,
and this year is no exception. Last month we devoted the September/October issue to
the high-achieving R&D 100 Awards Finalists—more than 300 in all—who were recognized
for their innovations in their respective fields. For those of you who attended the R&D 100
Awards Banquet in Las Vegas last month, you had the chance to learn about the companies across America and worldwide that are outpacing others in their fields. Celebrating
53 years in 2015, the R&D 100 Awards are a reflection of what is happening in “
disruptive technologies”—those that push us forward into new worlds and new paths.
The 100 products, technologies and innovations described in this special issue are
organized in five distinct categories, all major areas of R&D that warrant our attention
and have been singled out by our judges as being worthy to hold the R&D 100 badge of
honor. These include breakthroughs in Analytical/Test, IT/Electrical, Mechanical/Materials,
Process/Prototyping and Software/Services.
Each year, we showcase these cutting-edge innovations at our traditional R&D 100
Awards Banquet, but their influence goes well beyond just one night of celebration. The
achievements from the R&D 100 Awards program resonate all year long as new technologies influence others to explore new paths and new ideas. We’ll also report on these new
developments in more detail as 2016 unfolds.
Congratulations to all of the R&D 100 Winners for 2015! We look forward to welcoming your submissions for the 2016 R&D 100 Awards—and invite you to go directly to
www.rd100awards.com to get the process started!
Congratulations are also on order for the impressive innovator who graces this R&D
Magazine cover—the Innovator of the Year, Skylar Tibbits, who directs MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab and creates amazing, novel manufacturing processes. His fascinating profile in
this issue by Editor Lindsay Hock is a true story of invention
and ingenuity—just as each of the R&D 100 Award teams have
their own stories of discovery to tell.
